Bathtub Pump Replacement Jetted Tubs Air Switch Installation

home bath pump LXNeed to replace that tired ole' bathtub pump?  We offer great deals on all types of Jacuzzi and bath pumps.  You don't need to replace the pump with the exact brand if it is no longer available (some of those bath pumps can be more than 10-15 years old), as long as the specs match.

Check for operating voltage (120v), amp draw (such as 7 1/2a), pump size in case the space is very tight, plumbing connection (like 1 1/2") and if the pump operates by a wall switch or air switch.

This pump is a 3/4 HP 120v pump with 1 1/2" connections that includes the built-in air switch already, so just needs air button and air hose for complete installation. We offer many other Jacuzzi/bath pumps as well.

Converting a wall switch pump to an air switch

Bathtub pump air switches are sometimes part of the new replacement pump assembly such as the LX replacement  bath pumps.  In that case, a hole will need to be drilled in the tub to mount the air button (usually not included with pump because there are many style and colors).  You will also need some air switch tubing (we offer that in 10 foot length, or in whole rolls). 10 feet of tubing is usually enough for most on-tub button installations where the pump is also under the tub.

So if you get a pump with built-in air switch, then you just need to mount the button and hook up the air hose to switch it on and off. The pump is hooked up to power as normal, but not on a wall switch, or the wall switch has to be in the on position, then the air switch will take care of actually turning the pump on and off.

Air switches can also be purchased seperately in the case they are not part of the pump.

Air Buttons

upright buttonThe button that is mounted somewhere along the rim (usually in one of the corners since it may require 1 3/8" or larger hole size) can be chrome, gray, black, white, bone, brass or other style and color.  These flush mount air buttons provide a burst of air to the air switch, that in turn switches the pump on and off.  Single button press turns the pump on and another single button press turns the pump off.

An air hose is used to connect the switch to the pump.  The air hose is just inserted all the way into the receptacle on the bottom of the air button assembly and onto the air switch which can be external or part of the pump.

Replacing the Air Button

bottom of air buttonsHave an existing button that needs to be replaced?  You may also want to change out the air hose if it is not serviceable.

When installing a new air button, a hole needs to be drilled the size of whichever button is being installed. When there is an existing button, then the hole size also needs to be measured in order to assure the replacement button will fit.

Sometimes it can be a little tricky fishing up the air hose into the hole, but in this video, one method is to use some type of heavy tool to hold the air hose until you can install the new button (or a second pair of hands).

Air Tubing

tubing 10The 1/8" inner diameter and 1/4" outer diameter clear air tubing is the standard type of tubing for most air control buttons.  Some buttons may use a thicker tube.

We offer this tube in complete rolls or in 10 foot sections which work for most on-tub mounting applications of the air button.

Get the air button, air tubing and replacement pump with air switch right here at Hot Tub Outpost.  Need an external air switch if using existing pump? We've got those too.

Contact us with questions about finding the right replacement bathtub pump at support@hottuboutpost.com.  If your cavity is tight where the pump and power are to be installed (or already exist), then you can provide measurement of the area available for the pump and we will be sure the pump you order fits your space if that is a question.
