How to Test Hot Tub Fuses

fusesInstallers that need to review hot tub fuse testing can check hot tub fuses with a VOM volt-ohm meter.

How to check fuses in 120v Spa Control Systems

If the spa Control System is 120V follow the steps below:

a). With VOM meter set to voltage, take the meter probes and test each side of the fuse to incoming NEUTRAL. Both sides of the fuse should read the same voltage, ie if one side is 120v and the other side is 120v, the fuse is good.  if you are not getting the same voltage from one side to the other you have a bad fuse

    b) Installer can also take the VOM meter and put the probes on both sides of the fuse, if there is any voltage reading, the fuse is bad,
if the meter is reading 0v then the fuse is good as you can't test voltage on it's own line.

How to check fuses in 230v Spa Control Systems

If the spa Control System is 240V follow the steps below
    a) With VOMmeter set to voltage, take the meter probes and test each side of the fuse to incoming LINE 2, both sides of the fuse should read the same voltage, ie if one side is 120v and the other side is 120v, the fuse is good. If you are not getting the same voltage from one side to the other you have a bad fuse

    b) You can also take your meter and put the probes on both sides of the fuse, if you get any voltage reading, the fuse is bad, if the meter is reading 0v then the fuse is good as you can't test voltage on its own line.

How to Check Fuse by Testing Resistance
Note: This method is not always accurate and can yield a false positive testing. Measuring by voltage method above is the most accurate way.

    a) You can test the oHms across the fuse, it is best to test with the fuse removed out of the clips/fuse holders unless otherwise stated as some specific units have very small fuses that may get lost.  it is better to unplug the transformer and test on the board If the fuse is soldered, then you need to refer to voltage methods above.
