Pioneer H2O Tru Blu Test Strips - Sodium Bromide (NaBr)

These test strips do not measure the bromine level. They test the bromide level.
Bromine is tested using standard 4-way hot tub test strips.

Why do we need sodium bromide test strips when using a Genesis/Isis bromine salt generator?  Because over time water is splashed out, evaporates, is removed by exiting bathers etc.., so we need to monitor the sodium bromide level (not bromine level) to assure there is enough available bromine salt for the system.

Use these bromine salt test strips to determine how much sodium bromide (Tru-Blu) to add.

You will need a bottle or two of Sodium Bromide to top up low levels and to establish a reserve level when refilling the spa, or to top up the available bromine salt in the spa.  Use these bromine salt test strips and not regular bromine test strips. Do not fill the spa from a water softener.  The manufacturer recommends balancing the water when refilling with these levels:

  • pH: 7.2 - 7.8
  • Total alkalinity: 80 - 120 PPM – mg/l
  • Calcium hardness: 150 - 200 PPM – mg/l
  • Phosphate level less than 125 PPB
  • 98% Sodium Bromide NaBr

Follow the instructions that came with the bromine salt generator.

Note that on a new spa refill, it can take several days for bromine level to stabilize.

Press the Boost button on the system for the occasional heavy bather load.

If the water source when refilling the spa has high total disolved solid content, it is best to use a pre-filter that attaches to the garden hose to filter out chemical and organic contaminants and start off fresh.

The Tru Blu Sodium Bromide level in your spa should be between 1500 – 1900 ppm.

Check the chart on your bottle of Tru-Blu Test Strips. The reading should fall between 7.6 and 8.0.
