Each lifter also has 2 of these lock nuts, one for each of the ball studs.

When installing the ball stud and locknut on a Covermate III cover lifter, follow the instructions - "install the ball studs to the left and right pivot arms. Note: Be sure that the ball is pointing away from the spa"
