New life for a 15-year old spa.

Posted by Rick from Rhode Island on 27th Sep 2018

We own a 15 year old spa, it's perfect for our home (we live in New England).Having purchased the spa 3rd hand after replacing an Intex inflatable spa that we moved into the garage foruse in the winter, this spa was a good year-round outdoor fit for us. The brain finally quit after slowly fading..lights stopped working a year ago, then the temp control and pump control quit. We found this kit online from another retailer who was much more expensive. I spent the better part of a Saturday carving out some insulating foam to fit this into place, then re-wiring and re-configuring my wiring to integrate with this one, subsequently I had to drill a hole in the tub for the temp sensor, as it didn't integrate into my old one. TIP... I used 3M 5200 24-hr sealant to secure the sensor adapter, which is much like a thru hull on a boat, no leaks at all 2 weeks later. The spa is safer because of the proper GFI plug on the spa (I had a GFI wired outlet prior to this for code), now it is doubled. Everything works, pump lights etc. This is a relatively easy job, but could be time consuming for someone with basic wiring knowledge, as well as mechanical ability. Overall, well made, nice quality, top controls are sealed and are easy to use. Hoping to get about 10 more years out of it...the next replaceable thing is the pump....fingers crossed that it's going to last a while.
