The floating soft cover just floats on the surface of the hot tub water and creates an air barrier between the top of the water and the underside of the rigid hard cover.

Soft Top is an energy efficient foam cover that is not affected by the chemicals found in spas. Unlike most foam covers on the market the Soft Top does not absorb water. This foam cover comes rolled up for shipping with a cover dimension of 72" x 82". You then trim the cover to custom-fit the shape of your spa's water surface. The cover floats on top of the spa water to keep in heat and keep out the cold. To obtain the best energy efficiency, use the Soft Top on the water's surface and a rigid, hard cover to cover the spa. The resulting "dead air space" formed between the underside of your hard cover and the top side of the floating spa cover gives you the added protection against heat loss. Soft Top compares favorably to commonly used solar blanket material and will last much longer and insulate better.

Maxium Dimensions
These soft covers come in various maximum sizes from which you then cut around the edges to fit your particular spa. Be sure to order the one that covers the largest interior dimension of your spa when the water is filled to the recommended level. The soft top is not a solar blanket, but a much better insulator. This product is not meant to be a "first cover" but an additional energy blanket for increased efficiency.

Note this product XJW7282 is the quality foam cover, not the cheap plastic bubble material that some are selling on the market.  (One customer of ours tells us he used the cheap plastic bubble type in the past and that it was so lightweight it rolls up under the cover, negating any benefit. This cover is heavy enough to float on the water without rolling up - that's the old adage "you get what you pay for".
